AdLikha: Online Zine Competition Primer

AdLikha is an online zine competition hosted by UP Oroquieta that seeks to incorporate social advocacy in art-making through the production of zine. In its very first installment, AdLikha underscores the collective struggle and collective recovery of Filipinos, especially during these trying times.

Hence, this year's competition is themed "Panimdim at Pagbawi."

Panimdim comes from the root word 'dimdim' which means reflection or an extreme feeling of loss. Pagbawi, from its root word bawi, means to reclaim, recover or rise upon an occasion. Given this, the theme centers on our reflections and evaluations of the current socioeconomic status of Philippine society. It also begs participants to provide suggestions on how Filipinos can recover from tragedies—both personal and national—and reclaim what they have lost.

The content of entries must revolve around this central theme. Entries may also include the following suggested subthemes:

  • Reclaiming our sense of democracy

  • Achieving justice

  • Recovering from the pandemic and super typhoons

  • Demanding accountability from persons in authority

  • Ending the culture of impunity and police brutality

  • Restoring a cleaner and safe environment

  • Revamping a more inclusive and progressive educational curriculum

  • Realizing the involvement of the youth for the betterment of Quezon Province, and the nation at large

Objectives

  • To promote social awareness regarding the issues and state of Quezon Province and the Philippines at large.

  • To nurture a sense of civic responsibility, and provide an avenue for freedom of expression among the youth today.

  • To showcase and encourage the artistic and literary capabilities of the participants
